Cody, Wyoming and the first day of Yellowstone

We set out on our road trip on Friday morning. We drove north for around 9 hours to Cody, Wyoming. We passed a lot of beautiful scenery, lots of ranches, cattle and pronghorn deer. The weather was great and there was no traffic, so we arrived with enough energy for a swim and dinner. The following morning we explored Buffalo Bill's Museum. It was a great exploration through the wild west and how Buffalo Bill made his name. We set off for the east entrance of Yellowstone shorty after with a lunch stop along the way. It was a memorable lunch because while the kids explored, Liam stepped into a huge pile of poop. From what we can tell it was elk or bear poop. Then it started raining, so we ate and ran!  Along the way, we saw a waterfall, bighorn sheep, a very young moose in the river and lots of melting snow. (yes, snow, even so late in spring, there was lots of snow and frozen lakes)

As we entered Yellowstone, one of our first introductions was two bison blocking our way on the road. We followed them very slowly as they passed. It was fun! We then stopped to check out the view of the lake and the first of many fumaroles, steam escaping from the ground. We arrived at our cabin and settled in for the night.
