This was the day we saw all the small geysers of the park. We drove to Norris Geyser basin and walked around the boardwalk to check out all the thermal pools and springs. They all had cool names the Green Dragon and Puff n Stuff and the biggest being the Steamboat. It was hot and steamy again with lots of cool colors and bubbling. Afterwards, we had lunch and the kids played on the fallen tree balance beams until Lily took a bad spill and scratched up her thighs.
The morning drive was also exciting when we pulled off to see a gray wolf having breakfast which was a poor elk. Very cool sight although not pleasant.
Our next stop was the Mammoth Hot Springs. The drive was very pretty. During the drive we pulled off at some very cool rock formations that we all climbed. The boys loved going up as far as possible and climb around to all the nooks and crannies. We saw our first elk and more bison. They had a very cool shape like sugar castles and mountains. Parts of it was shining in the sun and steam water pouring down. We saw two very active bull snakes on our walk.
Dried poo, ew!
yay! a family shot
This was the day we saw our first baby bison walking with his family in the road!
On our way back, just across from the Mud Volcano we pulled over to watch a herd of cow elk grazing in a pretty meadow as the sun was just beginning to set. We stopped in for dinner at Canyon Village and did a little shopping for souvenirs.
